Jerry Hinds Basketball Award

What is the Jerry Hinds Basketball Award?

1.  This is a $1000 memorial scholarship in the name of Jerry Hinds.  Jerry Hinds started Brownsburg Hoops and the Indy Hoops 3rd grade program.  Jerry was one of the biggest promoters and supporters of Indy Hoops basketball.  The scholarship is for college education only.  It is our hope that this will encourage players to work hard on and off the court. 

2.  The award will be is administrated by the "Hendricks County Community Foundation".

3.  The award will presented at halftime of the 6A game on Championship Sunday 02/28/10 at Avon High School.

4.  The scholarship will be awarded when the recipient provides proof of enrollment at the college of his choice.  If the recipient chooses not to attend a post secondary school, the money will remain in the scholarship fund.

5.  It will be the responsibility of the recipient to maintain contact with the Hendricks County Community Foundation.

6.  The recipient has until June 1st of his graduating year from high school to claim the award.

7.  All money will be administered by the Hendricks County Community Foundation.

8.  Anyone wanting to make a donation to the scholarship fund can send it directly to the Jerry Hinds - Indy Hoops Memorial Scholarship Fund at the  Hendricks County Community Foundation.  All donations are tax deductible.

Criteria

 

1.  Nominee must be a 6th Grade Indy Hoops Player in the 6A or 6B  league.

2.  Must have played in the 4th, 5th and 6th grade Indy Hoops Leagues.

3.  One player from each eligible team may be nominated.  The nomination can be submitted by the coach, community director or team.

4.  Each nominee is to have displayed good sportsmanship throughout all three seasons of Indy Hoops participation.

5.  Each nominee is to write an essay (in his own handwriting) on what life lessons he has learned from the game of basketball and any other positive qualities he has acquired from the game of  basketball.  Please advise the nominee to provide a cover sheet with his name, address, team name, coach's name and division.  Please advise the nominee not to mention his team name or coach's name in the body of his essay.  (The nominee's name should be written on the cover sheet only)

6. All nominations/essays are due to Indy Hoops no later than 1/31/10.  Nominations/essays received after 1/31/10 will not be considered.  Mail to:
